Florida Panthers defeat Ottawa Senators, fire assistant GM Mike Santos
The Panthers front office was shook up a little Tuesday as assistant general manager Mike Santos was told he wouldn’t be returning next season.
General manager Dale Tallon said before Florida’s 3-2 shootout win over the visiting Senators that Santos, his assistant GM since 2010, would not have his contract renewed and was free to find employment elsewhere.
Panthers expected to trade Scottie Upshall
The Panthers are expected to have more than $30 million in cap space and can clear even more by dumping several veterans, including Scottie Upshall, by the March 5 trade deadline. The Panthers have asked for an $80 million buyout to help cover what they say are $30 million annual losses; the Broward commission likely will give the Panthers something, but it’s undetermined how much.
Panthers want Thomas back next year
